From Nursing to Seminary to Prison ... all for the Lord |
Dr. Kristi Miller serves as Awana Lifeline’s National Director for Hannah’s Gift. She is the author of the Hannah’s Gift series, which she wrote from the context of being deeply involved in the lives of incarcerated women. She has served in various capacities in the Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women (LCIW), including as Chaplain, Education Coordinator, and later as Assistant Warden. Kristi initially entered the prison world when she started an extension of the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (NOBTS) in LCIW, by which women with life sentences could be trained to be ministers within the prison walls. Kristi holds a Master of Divinity with a specialization in Biblical Languages (2007), a Master of Theology (2009), and a PhD in Old Testament/Hebrew (2010) all from NOBTS. In addition to working with Awana Lifeline, Kristi works with Global Prison Seminaries Foundation, where she and Burl Cain (former warden of “Angola” Prison in Louisiana) help facilitate getting seminary programs in prisons across the country. Kristi has served in staff positions on the local church level, she teaches as an as adjunct faculty member for NOBTS, and she also has 13 years of oncology experience as a registered nurse. |
